For years, Horizons Trust Gambia (HTG) has worked alongside Baylor College of Medicine to strengthen maternal and newborn care in The Gambia. Together, the organisations share a common goal, namely improving outcomes for mothers and babies through practical, sustainable change.
During their recent visit, the Baylor College of Medicine team worked side by side with HTG and hospital staff as part of the ongoing Safer Delivery Project, engaging directly with the people and systems at the heart of maternal and newborn care.
From discussions with frontline teams to spending time within the hospital environment, the visit created space for shared learning, open dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving.
The Baylor team’s recent visit is another step in that ongoing journey and their continued presence reflects more than simply collaboration. reflecting a deep, long-term commitment to supporting health systems where it matters most. Through the Safer Delivery Project at Kanifing General Hospital, the partnership continues to focus on strengthening care, supporting frontline teams, and building systems that last.
What stood out most was not just the expertise brought into the room, but the way in which knowledge and experience were exchanged. This is what meaningful partnership looks like, namely listening, learning, and working together towards a common goal.
